THE WORLD IS BROKEN
When Dorohstic wizards erupted Mount Helix to secure their independence they unwittingly unleashed pent up magical energy deep within the world. This event known as The Sundering tore the planet apart, casting the continent of Mazer across the planes. Now the survivors must contend with the full might of the worlds above, below, and within as they struggle to survive against the forces of the Astral Plane and Elemental Chaos.
THE GODS ARE DEAD
As The Sundering wracked the surface of the planet so too did it wrack the corpreal bodies of the Gods. The Immortal Pantheon which had reigned the cosmos since antiquity were stripped of their powers and destroyed as they tried to hold the world together. Now the prayers of Mazer’s people go unanswered. The divine magic that remains is but weakened echoes. The temples of the world grow thick with dust as those few who still hold the faith including the fallen angel Nephilim search for anything that may remain of their deities. But a power vacuum seldom remains unfilled, as the Primordial Lords of the elemental chaos, former Exarchs of The Pantheon themselves, and Mazer’s most enterprising mortals vie for empty thrones in the kingom of heaven.
THE COLONIES ARE CUT OFF
None of the kingdoms, countries, or nations that exist on Mazer today were founded by natives of the continent. The human Arcturic Empire and the dragonborn Nation of Arcadius colonized Mazer decades ago after it was discovered by dwarven miners tunneling under the ocean, and drove the native peoples from their lands. Life for the colonists has always been hard in this hostile land, and will be harder still now that their connection to the powerful home countries is lost forever.
MAGIC IS A NON-RENEWABLE RESOURCE
Disconnected from the world Mazer is disconnected from the source of magic itself. The land holds a finite amount of mana, and when depleted locally can only be restored through the use of powerful Spellshards. Sources of magical energy harvested from deep within Mazer and the Astral Sea, these Spellshards are the remains of the world’s infinte magical fount, and are the catalyst for many of the wars today. Once powerful magic users and factions must compete for what little magical energy can be found if they are to survive in a world where hamstrung archmages can be murdered by petty farmers. Securing the sources of these Spellshards has become a national priority.
