Before their destruction during The Sundering worship of what are now known as the Old Gods was an almost universal practice among the peoples of the world. A millenia ago the Elemental Czars returned from the bowels of the Primordial Realm and wrestled the world from the hands of a squabbling collection of racial and archetypal deities. The people of the world lamented and raised eight champions who thrust the Primordials back into their ancient lairs. Each of these champions represented an aspect of common identity shared by all races as opposed to the varied and often foreign gods of yesteryear, and were elected to ascend as the new protectors of the mortal world. Though the world once again plunged into war and conflict it did so with a common reverence for what would be then be called The Pantheon.
